Packaging manufacturer template

Small and mid-size packaging plants making boxes, cartons, pouches or labels, where the owner or plant manager still chases orders, paper stock and dispatches across spreadsheets and phone calls.

The problem this solves

A packaging plant looks simple from outside: paper or film goes in, boxes or pouches come out. Inside, one late truck of board can stall three jobs at once, and nobody finds out until the corrugator operator asks where the sheets are. Orders live in one file, job cards on printed sheets, stock in a third place, and rejections in a notebook by the printing machine.

So the same questions come up every day. Which jobs are late, and why? Is the 5-ply board enough for this week, or do we call the mill today? What did scrap cost us this month, and was it print, glue or handling? When a job finishes, who writes the delivery challan, and did the order status get updated?

What you get

Ten linked tables that already speak packaging:

  • Customers and products hold payment terms, credit limits, box and pouch specifications, materials and minimum order quantities.
  • Orders carry a customer, a product, a quantity, a due date, a priority and a status that runs from confirmed through to dispatched, plus the delayed state you actually need.
  • Job cards tie a machine, an operator, planned against produced quantity and a stage to each order, with a completed tick.
  • Rejections record the reason, the quantity and the cost of each scrap event against the job that caused it.
  • Dispatches hold the challan number, vehicle, quantity and whether the goods were delivered.
  • Raw materials carry a reorder point, a usual reorder quantity, a supplier and a flag for what needs buying.
  • Suppliers, purchase requests and finished goods complete the loop from buying to shipping.

Two automations already switched on

The template ships with two ready-made workflows, filed in folders you can see and edit.

  1. Low stock raises a purchase request. When a material’s stock level changes, the workflow compares it with the reorder point. At or below, it flags the material and drafts a purchase request for the usual quantity. When stock recovers, the flag clears.
  2. A finished job drafts the challan. Tick a job card as completed and a dispatch record appears for that order, with the produced quantity filled in, waiting for a vehicle number.

How a day runs

  1. Start on the shop floor screen. It shows what is below its reorder point, the open job cards sorted by due date, rejection cost by reason and what is waiting at the gate.
  2. Buy what is flagged. The needs-reorder view lists the shortest materials first, and the purchase requests table shows what has already been raised and ordered.
  3. Work the open jobs. Machines, operators and due dates sit on one list. A job on quality hold stays visible instead of disappearing into a notebook.
  4. Log scrap with a reason. Print misregistration, crushed board and glue failure become separate numbers with separate fixes.
  5. Close the job, dispatch the goods. Completing a card creates the challan draft, and the awaiting-delivery view shows what is still on the road.

Frequently asked questions

Does this produce GST invoices or tax documents? No. It tracks orders, production, stock and dispatch. Keep your accounting package for invoices and returns, and use this beside it.

Can I change the machines, materials and stages? Yes. Every table, field and option can be renamed, added or removed after you install. Nothing is locked, and the sample records are there to be replaced with your own.

What about my own paper grades and sizes? Add them to the raw materials and products tables. The reorder flag and the purchase request workflow work on any material you add, because they read the reorder point from the record itself.

Is the sample data real? No. Every customer, supplier and number in the template is invented so you can explore a busy plant before you enter your own.
